Saiunkoku Monogatari - CD Drama 1 - Prologue

Shuurei:	What do you mean we have a sudden guest?! Thanks to that, my plans have all been ruined. Utterly ruined!
Seiran:	I'm sorry, My Lady.
Shuurei:	There's no reason for you to apologise, Seiran. But. But... What're we going to do, Seiran? I had a really good job lined up and it's all gone to waste. Poof! And here I thought we'd be able to buy rice this month for sure! But it's barley again. Barley! That line that runs right down the middle. That line's going to taunt me this month too saying "Hey! Hey! I'm not rice!" I can't believe it! I can't believe it!!
Seiran:	My Lady. Barley doesn't talk. Nobody will say that.
Shuurei:	cries I'm sorry, we're always causing you such trouble. But please forgive us for being so weak as to be unable to tell you to go find a better place to work.
Seiran:	My Lady, I have no intention of leaving the two of you.
Shuurei:	Seiran! Ahh, why are we so poor?! Our social class is so high yet we're living being taunted by barley. I hate it!
Seiran:	My Lady?!

Narrative:	Saiunkoku is divided into eight provinces. They were named for the eight enlightened beings that helped the first Emperor Sougen and are: Ran Province, Kou (crimson) Province, Heki Province, Kou (yellow) Province, Haku Province, Koku Province, Sa Province and Shi Province. The family that rules each province has the same name as the province, and these eight names in turn indicate that the person is from the high nobility. And the Imperial Palace that is here in Shi Province is the responsibility of the Emperor, and so purple, or the name Shi is synonymous with the Imperial family.
