Ghost Hunt

Text Translation - Pages 32-54

Shibuya: ... One week ago, this school's principal came to our office.

It seems that whenever attempts were made to demolish the old school building to make way for a new building, accidents happened. So he wanted us to investigate.
Principal: ... Well

There are strange rumours that "the old school building is cursed".
Mai: And for that you went through the trouble of transferring!?
Shibuya: Who would go through the trouble of transferring for the sake of an investigation?
Mai: But yesterday you said you were a "transfer student".
Shibuya: I believe I said "something like that".

You were telling ghost stories at the time. That's why.
Mai: I see...

And it's possible that talk about the old building might come up?

Shibuya: I wanted to gather the rumours that exist among the student body.

And? Did the story come up?
Mai: Yeah. Michiru told us about it. Umm...
Shibuya: Hang on...
*kata* (opens briefcase)
Mai: Hmmm....

this seems rather interesting...
*kachi* (turns on a tape recorder)
Shibuya: Okay, begin.
Mai: You see....

*****
*kachin* (turns off the tape recorder)
Shibuya: ... I see...

Mai: Umm... how much of Michiru's story is true do you think?
*kacha* (opens briefcase)
Shibuya: ... it's a fact that when the old building was being used, there was a high number of deaths.
Mai: Really?

(Yikes!)
*pararara* (sound of flipping through notes)
Mai: ? Whoa
I can't read it!!
*para* (pulls out one page)
Shibuya: ...The old school building was...

...used as a school building until eighteen years ago.

Since that time, every year one or two deaths would arise.

In the case of the work to destroy the West wall, the accident where the roof collapsed did in fact happen.

However,

there is no truth in the story that workers were killed.

Shibuya: Five people were injured.

The cause of the accident was worker negligence.
Mai: Is that all?

Whew!
Shibuya: The original scope of the project was to destroy one third of the building and was completed as planned.
*para* (turns page)
Shibuya: After that... about six years ago

The body of a small child was found inside the building

A seven year old girl from the neighborhood. This case...

was actually a ransom-kidnapping incident and the kidnapper was arrested one month later.
*para* (turns page)
Shibuya: Likewise, there was a teacher who committed suicide, but...

Shibuya: The teacher had suffered a nervous breakdown

and there was a suicide note.
*pachi* *pachi* (Mai claps)
Mai: ...Wow!

You really did your research!
*para* (turns page)
Shibuya: Naturally.

It wouldn't do to have you think so ill of my ability to gather information.
Mai: ...

(I see)

And the "run-away truck"?
*kasa* (takes out a newspaper clipping and hands it to Mai)
...A truck loaded with rubble suddenly went out of control barrelling onto the volleyball court.

Class was in session on the grounds at the time. Seven students were injured and two were killed in the tragic accident.

The truck's driver had been drinking...
Shibuya: And so, work was cancelled at this time.

This may also have been partially due to the rumours...

Shibuya: As far as the research shows, there's nothing that takes the stories beyond the rumour level.

As ominous as it all sounds, each incident has a clear cause.
Mai: Hmm.
*gi* (bench squeaks as Shibuya gets up)
Shibuya: Quite frankly, I don't think there's much to this case.
Mai: Uh... Ummm...

Do I really ha~ve....

to help out?

(Okay, I get the picture. Just don't glare at me like that...)

*cry*
